CIRA was formed in 1975 and is headquartered in McLean, Virginia. Membership is limited to those who either retired from the Central Intelligence Agency or have been or were employed by the Agency as employees or contractors for at least 10 years, whether or not currently retired . CIRA has some 3,000 members with some 20 chapters located throughout the U.S. CIRA is strictly a fraternal organization that also supports a modest scholarship program for the children and grandchildren of current and retired Agency employees. It hosts three luncheons annually in the Washington, D.C. area where senior current and former CIA and other intelligence and national security officials provide remarks. CIRA publishes a Quarterly newsletter and maintains a restricted web site for its members to enable the dissemination of information of interest to all CIRA members nationwide.
